At Blue Wren we only use 100% natural, 100% renewable and 100% environmentally friendly soy wax. Soy wax is made from soybeans which are a sustainable source. Candles made with soy wax burn much cleaner, resulting a candle that does not produce soot or toxins. Therefore, a soy candle is a much safer option for your health.
Soy wax has low melting point. This lowers the risk of getting burned if the wax accidentally spills onto skin. Soy wax is soft and pliable. If the wax spills, it can easily be cleaned by soap and water.
Most traditional candles bought from big box stores, are made with paraffin wax. Paraffin wax is derived from petroleum. It is not a renewable source and contains harmful chemicals and produces a lot of soot.
Soy candles have a lower melting point and burn 30-50 percent longer than paraffin candles.
All products are hand-poured in small batches. Each candle will have slight variances. After each burn you may notice a bumpy or flakey top to your candle. This is a normal for a 100% soy wax candle and demonstrates that your candle is 100% natural and toxin-free. Following burning instructions every time to increase the life of your candle.
Flaking or bumpy top:
Once you have burned your candle for the first time you may notice that the top of your wax looks bumpy or flakey. This is a common characteristic of 100% soy wax. When it solidifies, the top of the wax cools faster creating a flakey look. This will not affect the scent or performance of the candle.
Wet Spots:
You may notice what looks like wet spots on the sides of your jar. Since soy wax is sensitive to temperature changes the wax can shrink and expand. These spots will disappear once you light your candle.
Frosting:
Crystallizing or frosting is a natural characteristic of all vegetable waxes. You may notice this on your candles or wax melts. This will not affect the scent or performance of your candle in any way.
Discolouration:
Sunlight can cause discolouration in your soy candles. Keep candles out of sunlight to avoid this.
