candle care and burning instructions

CANDLE CARE & TIPS

First Burn:

Your first burn is very important. Trim the wick before lighting the candle to 1/4" or 5mm. Once you have lit the candle let it burn until the entire top is melted and has reached the edges of the jar.  You will need to burn your candle for at least 3 hours to achieve this melt pool. This will prevent tunnelling in your candle and prolong the life of your candle. Soy wax has a "memory", if you do not burn your candle to the edges of your jar you will end up with tunnelling with each burn after. For the best burn every time, trim your wick to 1/4" or 5mm before lighting your candle. This will increase the life of your candle.

Candle Care and Burning instructions:

  • Never leave a lit candle unattended.
  • Keep candle away from flammable objects.
  • Avoid drafts.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Burn on a heat safe surface.
  • Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time.
  • Always trim your wick to 1/4" or 5mm before each burn.
  • Do not blow out your candle, use a candle snuffer or place the lid back on the jar.
  • Stop using candle when only 1/2" or 10mm of wax remains in the jar. Not doing so can result in damage to the jar.
  • Do not move candle or touch while burning or still hot.

Why won't my wick stay lit?

The gentle crackle and unique flicker of wood wick candles make for a super cozy ambience, but they can be a little tricky to burn if you're not used to them. Depending on the issue, the solution may differ. Use the guidelines below to troubleshoot your wick.

My wick is lit, but it's drowning in wax and has a very small flame.

Sometimes this happens when the wax isn't pulled up to the wick fast enough while burning. This can happen occasionally. Try these simple steps to bring your candle back to life.

  1. If your wax has melted to the edge of the jar, blow out your candle and let the wax harden. Trim your wick and light it! If it happens again, continue onto step 2.
  2. When the melt pool is larger/melted all the way to the edge, fold up a piece of paper towel so it's about 2 inches wide. Blow out your candle and absorb some of the wax to give it some room to breathe. Do not soak up all of the melted wax, just a bit at a time. Trim your wick again, and light your candle.

My wick won't stay lit or keeps going out.

This happens when the wick is too long or the candle has started tunnelling.

  1. If you haven't already, trim your wick. You can do this by taking a tissue and breaking off the flakey burnt part of the wick. Discard. Relight your candle and let the wax melt to the edge of the jar before blowing out. If it still won't stay lit, continue to step 2.
  2. If your jar has wax around the edge of it, this is called tunnelling. This happens when the wax wasn't allowed to melt to the edge of the jar before it was blown out. In order to fix this, use a knife and scrape out the excess wax around the edge of the jar. Trim your wick and light it. Allow your wax to melt to the edge of the jar each time before blowing it out.

If you have tried all of these steps and your candle still didn't burn correctly, please reach out to us with pictures/video so we can help!
